What Feels Best vs. What Feels Right
Change is scary. Sometimes it’s hard to walk away from something safe and comfortable, and take a step into the darkness of the unknown.
I see people every day who fear change. They fear new ideas, new relationships, and new challenges. For the past few months, I’ve even suffered with my own bout of complacency, which lasted until just recently (I know I’m feeling complacent when I stop writing).
In times of transition, we tend to search passionately for the path that feels right. Often times, that path is unclear. Sometimes multiple paths seem like good choices. Other times, every path looks like a dead end. When nothing feels right, we tend to settle for what’s best, rather than patiently searching out what’s right.
The problem with settling for what’s best right now, rather than waiting for what’s right in the unforeseen future is that what’s best now is easy.
“Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty… I have never in my life envied a human being who led an easy life. I have envied a great many people who led diffcult lives and led them well.”
— Theodore Roosevelt
Following your heart is so much harder than following your head. Taking what life gives you is a cinch when compared to fighting for what you want. Life is full of analytical life-surfers, riding the best wave they see on the horizon. It’s rare, however, to be a die-hard passion-driven, perfect-wave-chaser, who won’t settle for anything other than the legendary, 50-footer that only comes once or twice in a lifetime.
It’s time to grab the bull by the horns, and live life… no more letting life live me.
